WQER-LP Radio is a community public radio broadcasting 24/7 at 96.7 FM. It serves the Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown and surrounding areas in Montgomery County, Maryland. It broadcasts variety programming covering news, commentaries, music, culture, education, health, community events/activities, etc.. The programming is primarily in mandarin Chinese. WQRR radio aims to serve as a bridge for better understandings of the culture from different culture and ethnic groups.
Broader coverage of DC and Maryland by other full power radio stations often overshadows the news, events, people, stories, and culture that define the Rockville & Gaithersburg areas, one of the most diverse and innovative communities in the country. But WQER will provide an opportunity for all local communities to raise their voices and share their perspectives – and listen to their friends and neighbors as they produce and deliver their own community radio programs. In addition to the regular coverage area, WQER on-air broadcast also reaches to the commuting population living in the I-270 corridor areas, which is a highly congested traffic bottleneck on regular weekday rush hours.
